What PortWin is, what it isn’t, and who owns what.

Effective October 4, 2026

Compatibility

PortWin runs Windows software on macOS through Wine, a compatibility layer, together with Apple’s D3DMetal and the DXMT graphics translators. Most games and programs work, but not all: software with kernel-level anti-cheat, device drivers, Microsoft Store (UWP) apps and system utilities that need genuine Windows are not supported. Behavior can change when a game, launcher or macOS is updated. Check the honest compatibility list on the home page and use the 14-day trial before buying.

Online games and anti-cheat

Some online games and their publishers do not allow running the game through a compatibility layer, and an anti-cheat system may block or flag such use. Playing online games with PortWin is at your own risk; we are not responsible for any restrictions or bans applied by game publishers.

Your data

Bottles are ordinary folders on your Mac. Back up saved games and important files: we are not responsible for data loss caused by programs you run, by deleting a bottle, or by errors in the software.

Third-party software

Recipes and the Windows components window download installers directly from their publishers or through the Winetricks project. That software is provided by its owners under their own licenses and terms, which you accept when you install it. Kuka Lab does not distribute, modify or support it.

Experimental features

Features marked experimental, such as unpacking Microsoft Store packages (.msix), may not work for every package and can change or be removed.
